Rice scientists to meet today

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD: The 38th All India Rice Research Workers group meeting will begin at the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, on Tuesday.

The three-day annual meet would review the research work done under the All-India Coordinated Rice Improvement Program during 2002. The most important event for rice scientists in the year would also identify new varieties and hybrids as well as proven technologies suitable for farmers.

Two special sessions on `use of transgenic and marker technology in rice breeding' and `quality rice for exports' have also been slated, according to Dr B. Mishra, Project Director of the Directorate of Rice Research (DRR), here. The Rice Group would also discuss, plan and finalise the research activities for the year 2003, a DRR release here said.
