Rally to protest Netravati diversion

Our Bureau

MANGALORE: The Karnataka Parisarasaktha Krishikara Vedike will hold a rally here on April 9 to protest against the Government's proposal to divert the Netravati River.

The plan to turn the West-flowing Netravati eastward, according to the Vedike, will not only hit the farmers along the natural course of the river, but will also prove detrimental to the ecological balance of the Western Ghats.

This `unscientific' proposal will also create various kinds of `natural imbalance' in the long run, according to the Vedike.

Various farmers' organisations and environmentalist groups have already registered their protest against the project.

Rallies have also been already held in Belthangady and Mitthabagilu and representations made to the Government to drop the idea of diverting the natural course of the Netravati.
