Clean notes

It has been reported that the Reserve Bank of India has decided to get tough with banks that do not comply with its "clean-note policy".

Though most banks have already started implementing the RBI's directive, there are a few facing resistance from employees. The RBI has rightly decided against the stapling of currency notes, which makes them deteriorate easily. Clean notes are conspicuous by their absence and one find notes heavily mutilated, dirtied, scribbled and crushed.

There was a time when one could hope to get clean notes from Banks. But today it is not possible. One hopes the RBI's directive regarding clean notes will be implemented in letter and spirit by all financial institutions in the country.
