KOCHI, Feb. 6

THE India International Seafood Show 2003 will be held in Goa from February 7-9. The trade fair, organised primarily by the Marine Products Exports Development Authority (MPEDA) in collaboration with the Seafood Association of India (SEAI), proposes to highlight infrastructural developments that have taken place in the Fishery sector in India.

Speaking to Business Line on the eve of his departure to Goa, the MPEDA chief, Mr Jose Cyriac, said the trade show was more of a podium for a buyers-sellers meet. "The fair will not only showcase what India has to offer in the seafood sector but will once again reinforce our position as a major seafood supplier to the world," he said.

The show will have 80 stalls, which has been taken over by processors, exporters, equipment manufacturers from India and abroad, feed manufactures shipping lines etc. A wide spectrum of seafood products, processing machinery, ice-making machines etc is also being exhibited.

Delegates from the US, EU, Japan etc are expected to participate in the fair. The trade show will also have business sessions on February 8-9 forenoons. On February 8, the subject of discussion will be `Prevailing situations in the US, EU and Japanese markets' while `Issues relating to antibiotic residues including heavy metals' will be the subject on February 9.

Amongst the experts participating in the fair is Mr Richard Gutting, President of the US-based National Fisheries Institute, an expert on anti-dumping issues in the US, Dr. Andrew Kuljis, expert on genetic shrimp breeding etc.
