Bajaj Tempo sales up 34 pc in Jan

PUNE, Feb. 6

PUNE-based Bajaj Tempo Ltd, which has a presence in light commercial vehicles, utility vehicles, three-wheelers and tractors, has recorded a 34 per cent increase in sales across its product range up to January 2003 as compared to the corresponding period last year.

According to an official statement, of the four product lines that the company has its presence, light commercial vehicles (both small trucks and vans) had grown by 41 per cent (2,475 units as against 1,752 units for the same period last year). Multi-utility vehicles (passenger and goods carriers) had also registered a growth of 28 per cent (4,482 units as against 3,824 units for the previous year). The three-wheelers (passenger and goods carrier) had increased by 30 per cent (19,545 units against 15,025 unit's vis-a-vis the same period last fiscal).

The company in its tractor division has recorded an 82 per cent increase in its tractor sales and had sold about 300 tractors during January 2003. This is against the industry average of 20 per cent. It noted that during January 2003, the company had crossed the total sales registered in the last financial year and is estimated to cross the Rs 800-crore mark for the current fiscal. Bajaj Tempo has increased its dealer network for vehicles by 46 per cent and 132 per cent dealership increase for tractors. The company has also announced a warranty scheme covering three years or 3 lakh km on most four-wheeler models.
