MUMBAI, Oct. 8

GLOBAL express transportation company, FedEx, which last month severed its ties with Blue Dart on Tuesday announced a tie-up with oil company HPCL for opening cargo collection centres at its petrol pumps.

Under the revenue-sharing agreement signed today, FedEx will initially open 100 centres at HPCL's upmarket retail outlets called `Club HP, ' in eight cities in the country.

Mr Jacques Creeten, Managing Director, Indian sub continent of FedEx, said these centres would be opened by December 1. " This is a part of our expansion drive in India. FedEx currently has 36 locations in India. With this initiative, we can focus on small and medium-sized enterprises by offering them convenient access to our services," Mr Creeten said.

From October 1, FedEx had tied up with Prakash Airfreight Pvt Ltd for local pick-up and delivery services; and Jeena and Company for customs agency service.

For HPCL, FedEx centres will be a value-addition to its customers. Talking to newspersons after signing the agreement with the express company, Mr P.T. Suresh, Head, Allied Retail Business, HPCL, said, "the goal of Club HP is to add value to its customers. Research indicates that more than 30 per cent of Club HP customers have a need for reliable, international express transportation. FedEx can provide this service to our customers." Other companies had also approached HPCL for opening retails outlets.

The agreement is initially for one year and is renewable after that.

The revenue would be shared on the basis of the turnover, said Mr Suresh.

As part of its strategy to provide more facilities at the Club HP outlets, HPCL had also tied up with Barista Coffee bar, Mr Suresh said. HPCL has over 300 Club grade retail outlets.
