Telecommunications TN Govt panel for telecom co-ordination Our Bureau
CHENNAI, Oct. 4 THE Tamil Nadu Government has set up a "State High-Level Committee for Telecom Co-ordination" to review provision of communication infrastructure throughout the State. The committee will comprise Information Technology Secretary, Finance Secretary and Secretary I to the Chief Minister, says a State Government order. The GO says that several private communication providers have requested the Government for clearances/permission for amendment of existing Government Orders for removal of restrictions on installation of Base Trans-receiver Station Towers (BTS), permission from side setback rules for BTS towers and request for supply of electricity through Tamil Nadu Electricity Board to the BTS towers pending plan approval. All these clearances/amendments require inter and intra department consultation and examination. The State Government reviewed the provision of communication infrastructure throughout the State and it was proposed to set up the committee to coordinate inter-departmental clearances specific to the telecommunication sector related to the information technology in the State. The Secretaries to Government of the department concerned will be co-opted depending on requirement, and the committee will meet periodically as and when required, says the GO. The State has also created a district-level committee for overseeing the smooth execution of the communication project. The district collector is the chairman of this high-level committee that meets every fortnight to monitor and coordinate the roll out plan for OFC (optical fibre cable) networks in their districts.
