MUMBAI, Sept. 30

THE Mumbai based pharma major Wockhardt Ltd has introduced a 10,000 iu (international unit) per day version of recombinant erythropoietin, `Wepox'.

According to the official press release, the company is targeting the oncology or anti-cancer market and has claimed to be the second largest player in the erythropoietin market with the launch of the drug. Wockhardt now has a share of about 25 per cent of the Rs 30-crore erythropoietin market.

Mr Habil Khorakiwala, Chairman, Wockhardt said, "Affordability is a key issue for cancer patients who are on multiple drugs. We are offering Wepox 10,000 iu at 30 per cent lower price than competition so that more cancer patients can benefit from erythropoietin therapy.''

The other players in the erythropoietin market include Johnson & Johnson, Zydus Cadila, Nicholas Piramal, Hindustan Antibiotics, Emcure and LG of South Korea.
