Heart care for lower income groups

BANGALORE: The World Heart Day on Sunday saw many leading health care organisations proffering services at a reasonable cost to patients who could ill afford modern medical systems.
Narayana Hrudayalaya, one of the leading corporate corporate heart centres announced the launch of Karuna Hrudayalaya programme to extend angiography and open heart surgery at Rs 4,500 and Rs 65 000 for patients with a monthly income of Rs 6,000. It is aimed at helping breadwinners and young mothers from the lower income group.
Heart Care Foundation, another leading heart care centre, hit upon a novel plan to raise funds for poor patients needing heart care by joining hands with Airtel, mobile phone service company. Under the arrangement, Airtel would donate the proceeds of the SMS collection from its subscribers between September 29 and October 13 and hand it over to the foundation to meet the cost of about 13 patients needing immediate attention.
The Sagar Apollo Hospital conducted a free cardiac evaluation camp for senior citizens on Sunday. About 200 citizens were screened and given free medical opinion.
