Private Banks `Kerala big thrust area for Centurion Bank' Our Bureau
KOCHI, Sept. 30 KERALA has an important place in Centurion Bank's market share of the two-wheeler loan segment, accounting for 23,000 two-wheelers aggregating around Rs 62 crore, according to Mr U.K. Sethu Madhavan, Vice-President in charge of South India. The bank has disbursed over three lakh two-wheelers and aggregated Rs 1,000 crore all over the country. Retail banking is a major thrust area of the bank and it has various products such as personal loans, commercial vehicle and two-wheeler loans, and equipment finance, apart from attractive deposit schemes. ``Deposits from Kerala amount to Rs 300 crore, of which over Rs 200 crore is purely from the retail segment,'' Mr Sethu Madhavan said. Of the total customer base of six lakh across the country, Kerala alone accounts for one lakh. The bank has a network of 59 branches and 18 extension counters spread across the country. Of this, six branches, five extension counters and 16 ATMs are located in the State. In a move meant to help the pilgrims visiting the Srikrishna temple at Guruvayur, the bank has installed coin dispensing machine at the temple premises, the first of its kind in Kerala, Mr Sethu Madhavan said. The bank has 140 ATMs spread across the country, of which 60 are located in the South. Centurion Bank has also entered into a tie-up with South Indian Bank and negotiations are at an advanced stage with five other reputed scheduled commercial banks for sharing their ATM networks. This would enable the customers of all these banks to utilise all the ATMs. All the branches in Kerala are authorised by the Reserve Bank of India to undertake foreign exchange transactions. Remittances from abroad are made easy by means of correspondent arrangements with popular banks in all the important Asian, American and European countries, he said. The bank has been focusing on delivering specialised services to NRIs. NRI deposits constitute around 25 per cent of the total retail deposits in the State.
