Transco tariff incentives for conservation

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD, Sept. 9

THE Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd (Transco) has taken up a massive awareness programme on conservation of energy in agriculture with focus on demand side management (DSM).

As part of the programme, Transco has offered tariff incentives to consumers for efficient running of pumpsets and economising on power.

The CMD of Transco, Ms Rachel Chaterjee, who reviewed the implementation of DSM said that a discount of 50 per cent on monthly energy charges in slab or metered systems would be given as incentive if the agricultural consumer provided frictionless foot valve, HDPE piping suction and delivery, ISI-marked mono bloc pumpset and capacitor of adequate rating for the pumping system.

With the adoption of DSM measures, consumers will have to pay 10 paise a unit up to 2,500 units a year and 25 paise a unit for the balance where meters are provided. The discount is applicable up to March 2005.

The energy charges payable by agricultural consumers having 5 HP pumpsets in the slab system is Rs 187.50 per HP a year. For those who opted for out-of-turn allotment, the charges are 62.50 paise a unit.

The DSM measures are expected to improve the voltage profile and reduce electricity consumption.

There are 22.07 lakh agricultural pumpsets in the State and the energy consumption of the agricultural sector is 12,126 MU.

The total cost of power supply to agriculture this year is estimated to be Rs 2,365 crore.
