BPL Mobile plans more base stations

KOCHI: BPL Mobile Cellular Ltd has drawn up plans to put up additional 40 base terminal stations (BTS) across Kerala at an investment of Rs 40 crore to improve its coverage throughout the State.

The investment would be made over a period of six months and it would enable the company to cover NH-47 and NH-17 sectors and also the entire coastal stretches for the benefit of the fishing community. Work in this regard is expected to commence by the end of August, Mr K. Mohd. Saleem, Deputy Chief Operating Officer said at a press conference here on Monday.

Currently, the company has got 100 BTS in Kerala and the coverage has increased in the State recently after extending its service to the northern parts of the State. There was an increase of 20 per cent in revenue from the operations in the State, he added. Meanwhile, the company had announced the introduction of ``Mobile to Mobile (M2M) Free Incoming Calls'' from August 1.
