Information Technology AP: Commodity prices just a click away Our Bureau
HYDERABAD, June 28 FARMERS in Andhra Pradesh can now check out the prices of various commodities prevailing in different agricultural market yards in the State through Internet or telephone. The State Chief Minister, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, inaugurated the new services at a Conference of Agricultural Market Committees Chairpersons and Secretaries held here on Friday. The services were launched by the State Marketing Department with the help of National Informatics Centre (NIC) and Electronics Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL). An interactive voice response system was introduced through which the farmers, by calling telephone no. 3260100, can learn about the prevailing maximum and minimum prices and also related information of different commodities. This service is available round-the-clock. Similarly, the marketing department has launched a Web site that provides information about the quantum of arrivals of various commodities in 60 market yards and the prevailing prices both in the State and also in other States. The ruling international prices will be available on the Web site. Farmers can also post the details of their produce on the Web site and interact with the purchasers directly. Apart from these services, the department has installed information kiosks in market yards that provide information about the seasonal conditions, the agricultural practices to be adopted and the measures to be taken to improve quality and productivity. Audio-video display systems have also been installed in 50 main market yards to display the commodities price list. The Chief Minister said the State Government was preparing a crop-wise and commodity-wise integrated action plan for the benefit of the farmers. The action plan would integrate the activities of agriculture, marketing, civil supplies and other related departments. The Director of Marketing, Mr V.M. Manohara Prasad, said there were 294 agricultural market committees and 870 notified markets in the State.
