CHENNAI, May 17

INVENSYS India Pvt Ltd, a unit of the London-headquartered Invensys Plc, has completed a performance-based automation project at the Pudukkotai sugar mill of EID Parry Ltd.

According to a press release from Invensys, the project objective was to reduce sugar losses, staffing requirements, and steam usage.

Under a performance-based arrangement, Invensys' compensation is to be directly linked to these performance improvement deliverables, the release says.

It said that Invensys achieved its performance deliverables within six months of system commissioning.

These included a better than five per cent reduction in sugar losses (up to 1.85 per cent guaranteed losses against a normal baseline of two per cent through the season), a 25 per cent reduction in manpower requirements in automation areas and 9,000 tonnes per year in bagasse savings.

The release said that Invensys' solution helped integrate the sugar mill from raw cane receiving to finished product storage silo. The solution leveraged Invensys' extensive sugar industry application expertise and advanced Foxboro I/A series technology to maximise automation to improve process control, integrate operations, and minimise the need for human intervention throughout the process.
