BANGALORE, May 5

ILI Technologies Ltd of Bangalore has signed a technology transfer agreement with the Indian Institute of Science to commercialise its VoGram.

Vogram is a `voice telegram' patented by the institute's Department of Electrical Communication and Engineering. ILIT will refine the VoGram technology and market the technology in turn through public sector ITI, Dr Sira G Rao, ILIT Chairman, and Dr S Mohan, Chief Executive of IISc's industry interface, Society for Innovation and Development, have announced.

Dr Rao said the facility is aimed at the rural sector where telephones are few. The three-minute VoGram adds the emotional and personalised value of the spoken message and also overcomes the literacy and language barriers.

The sender calls a VoGram centre and leaves a message. The data centre forwards it to another VoGram centre at the receiving end, which informs the recipient of the waiting message — on the mode of communication suggested by the sender.
