New Products & Services Network Associates centre in Bangalore soon Our Bureau
BANGALORE, May 5 NETWORK Associates, the network security and availability technology company has announced a new development centre in Bangalore. The centre will be set up with a total investment of $15 million over the next two years. The team is expected to grow to 200 people, making it the largest development centre for the company. Mr Gene Hodges, President, Network Associates, said, ``we are also considering setting up a technical support centre although we will focus on engineering support for now.'' Next year could see the establishment of virus detection centres and labs in Bangalore, he said. The team would work initially on collaborative projects on the company's McAfee software projects and later in the year would gain independent projects on its Sniffer product line, said the newly appointed head for Indian operations, Mr Sridhar Jayanthi, Vice-President, Operations. Bangalore is Network Associates' fourth development centre the others are in Oregon and Santa Clara in the US and in the UK. Network Associates believes that wireless networks are the new unsecured frontier. ``Over 70 per cent of wireless networks are not secure today. These would be focus areas for Network Associates,'' Mr Hodges said. Firewalls are increasingly obsolete and the only appropriate response to the network security threat is to watch all the devices, all the time, Mr Hodges said.
