Satyam may develop new centre for BPO

V. Rishi Kumar

HYDERABAD, May 5

SATYAM Computer Services Ltd., the software services major, which is in the process of foraying into the business process outsourcing (BPO) space through the formation of a separate subsidiary, is likely to develop a new development centre here to address this emerging business opportunity.

The company has acquired land here near the Hitec City to locate a new centre and the process of completing the formalities have been initiated, according to the Government sources.

However, some of the regulatory issues are being addressed by the company as they have acquired a few plots together. The matter has been tossed up to the concerned departments for the necessary approvals, it is learnt.

The reason to locate this new outfit in a new development centre is aimed at availing certain concessions from the Government which come along for companies engaged in IT Enabled Services which is linked to the employee intake.

It may be recalled that the Andhra Pradesh Government, in league with consultants — Mckinsey and Co, had come up with a policy to attract IT enabled services. This policy extends certain sops for registration and offers certain concessions to the IT industry linking the project with the jobs the company manages to generate.
