Rubber park on stream by June

KOCHI, May 5

A RUBBER park, being developed exclusively for setting up natural rubber and rubberwood-based industries at nearby Irapuram, is set to become operational from June.

The park is promoted by a joint venture company, Rubber Park India (P) Ltd (RPIL), of the Central and State Governments with the objective of powering the progress of rubber-based industries in India, Mr George Joseph, Managing Director, RPIL, told Business Line. The park would be the first-of-its-kind in the country with best amenities, he claimed.

Apart from being a modern technology resource centre, the park would have world-class facilities for testing and certification, Mr Joseph said. The park would cater to the areas such as mixing, compounding, shaping, vulcanising and finishing and testing.

He said the park had plots earmarked for industries from tyre retreading to production of chemically treated quality rubber wood to the manufacturing of surgical gloves, conveyor belts and the like. Already four companies have come forward to set up units in the park. Among them are a balloon-manufacturing unit promoted by the Kerala Rubber Marketing Federation with Malaysian technical collaboration and others to manufacture centrifuged and cream latex, filament elastic thread and rubber chemicals.

As an introductory offer, the park offers 33.33 per cent discount on land price/lease rental till June 30. The cost for one acre developed land comes to Rs 15 lakh. The total authorised capital of the company is Rs 20 crore equally shared by the Rubber Board and the Kerala Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra).

The total cost of project has been revised to Rs 28 crore from the original estimates of Rs 36.61 crore.
