Tea Dusts in demand at Kochi tea sale Our Bureau
KOCHI, May 5 A MIXED trend persisted for almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction. Though the dust varieties witnessed a good general demand, it was comparatively low for leaf category. Of the quantity of 902,000 kg on offer in the dust category, CTC market opened by Rs 1-2 lower. Later it became steady to dearer as the sale progressed. Orthodox highgrowns were easier and mediums remained steady. The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 55-76, medium CTC realised Rs 40-55 and poorer type were quoted Rs 30-38. Highgrown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 40-50, while medium BOPD realised Rs 30-35. Secondaries were quoted at Rs 17-19. The leaf sale witnessed only a fair general demand and the quantity on offer was 348,000 kg. Orthodox leaf grades barely remained steady and tended to ease. CTCs were easier by Rs 1-2. The main source of demand for orthodox brokens and Fannings came from overseas shippers. The best Nilgiri varieties earned Rs 50-62, medium orthodox realised Rs 45-50 and plain orthodox at Rs 40-43. Medium CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 33 and Rs 36. In the dust category, Kodanad BOPD CL realised the best prices of Rs 97 followed by Mayura SFD by Rs 79. In the leaf varieties, Chamraj OP fetched the best prices of Rs 90 followed by Havukal BOPF by Rs 77.50.
