CHENNAI, March 6

XANSA, the UK-based business consulting, information technology and outsourcing company, is putting up its new software development facility at Siruseri Technology Park, near Chennai.

The first phase of the Rs 27 crore project, covering 27 acres, would be ready by March 2003, said Mr Saurabh Srivastava, Executive Chairman, Xansa India.

Mr Srivastava told newspersons here that the Siruseri centre was part of the Rs 160 crore, three-year investment plan the company had announced last year. The investment plan in India, the largest by the company anywhere in the world, includes setting up technology centres at Siruseri, Pune and a centre in Noida, near Delhi. Siruseri would be the company's biggest development centre, he added.

Xansa, which employs around 6,000 people worldwide, reported a turnover of around Rs 3,000 crore last fiscal year ending May 2001. For the first-half year ending October 2001, the company reported a turnover of around Rs 1,900 crore, a 32-per cent increase over the corresponding period the previous year, he said. The order book at the end of the half-year was around Rs 3,300 crore, he added.

``For Xansa, India would be the most critical element for delivery channels. Our intention is that within the next few years, the majority of the company's international development projects will be carried out from India. The country has a lot of IT talent and the rates are competitive,'' he said.

``There is a pricing pressure, and the whole IT industry is facing it, including us,'' he said. According to Mr Srivastava, out of the 6,000 employees worldwide, India has around 20 per cent. With the expansion plans, the employee strength in India would increase to around 10,000, which would be around 50 per cent of the company's total employee strength worldwide.

Mr Charles Daybell, Facilities Director, Xansa, and member of the company's worldwide executive, said the Siruseri centre would have a maximum capacity of 500,000 sq. ft, and can accommodate around 6,000 people. The centre would start early next year with around 500 employees, he said.

Listed on the London Stock Exchange, Xansa operates in the UK, North America, Continental Europe, India and Asia-Pacific.

The company's clients include GlaxoSmithKline, Pratt & Whitney, ABN Amro and Hitachi. The company's domain expertise includes banking, insurance, utilities, aerospace and defence.
