Anti-dumping duty on pentaerythritol imports

NEW DELHI, Feb. 26

THE Designated Authority in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recommended the imposition of provisional anti-dumping duty on the import of pentaerythritol from Canada, Japan and Taiwan.

Pentaerythritol finds application in the manufacture of alkyl resin, synthetic rubber, printing inks, stabilisers for plastics, explosives, pharmaceuticals and synthetic lubricants.

The petition seeking anti-dumping probe on pentaerythritol imports from Canada, Japan and Taiwan was filed by Kanoria Chemicals & Industries Ltd.

There are four producers of Pentaerythritol in India of which Allied Resins Ltd has suspended production.

The other three producers are Asian Paints Ltd, Perstrop Aegies Chemicals and Kanoria Chemicals & Industries Ltd. Asian Paints manufactures pentaerythritol for captive consumption.

In its preliminary findings on investigations concerning imports of pentaerythritol from Canada, Japan and Taiwan, the Authority has recommended the imposition of provisional anti-dumping duty of $113.5 per tonne on imports from Canada; $174.70 per tonne in the case of imports from Japan and $248.60 per tonne in the case of imports from Taiwan.

Meanwhile, the Authority has also initiated anti-dumping investigations on imports of phenol from the European Union, Singapore and South Africa.

Phenol is an organic chemical and used in the manufacture of plywood, laminates and particle boards.

The petition seeking anti-dumping probe on imports of phenol from the European Union, Singapore and South Africa has been filed by Hindustan Organic Chemicals Ltd (HOCL).

The other producers of phenol are Herdillia Chemicals Ltd and Neyveli Lignite Corporation.
