Economist to present alternative Budget

Our Bureau

BANGALORE, Feb. 26

ECONOMIST and management consultant, Mr Arindam Chaudhuri, will be presenting his version of an alternative Union Budget 2002 a day before the real thing.

Mr Chaudhuri, author of the bestseller Count your chickens before they hatch, will telecast his version of what the common Budget should be for an hour on Zee News at 9 p.m., a release said.

According to him, "India can become an economic superpower in terms of LSP (life style parity) before the year 2025, and in terms of national income before the year 2035 with the help of an alternative resource mobilisation and allocation plan, which can give India and Indian corporate sector a growth rate of more than 12-14 per cent.''

He believes that a double-digit growth rate is not a dream for Indians provided that the right policies are implemented. This can be achieved by following a trickle-up approach rather than trickle-down, as in China.

Mr Chaudhuri is also the Dean of Centre for Economic Research and Advanced Studies at the Indian Institute of Planning & Management, New Delhi, and has founded Planman Consulting.
