Hyderabad, Nov. 26 Mr Robert Charles Cotton, great grandson of Sir Arthur Cotton, the architect of many irrigation projects in the State, including the Dowleswaram barrage, was accorded a warm welcome during a visit to the State on Thursday.

Mr Cotton called on the Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, at his residence.

Thanking him for the visit to the State, Mr Rosaiah said the late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy took inspiration from Sir Arthur Cotton and launched massive irrigation projects under the name ‘Jalayagnam’.

Sir Arthur Cotton is remembered by the people in the Godavari delta in Andhra Pradesh and in parts of Tamil Nadu and Bihar for his efforts towards construction of irrigation and navigation canals, the Chief Minister said.

Mr Robert Charles Cotton said his grandfather had great concern for farmers and providing water was his top priority. He praised India for its economic development and Andhra Pradesh for making rapid strides in agriculture.

Mr Cotton will be felicitated at a public reception at Vijayawada next Thursday.
