Users seek end to Vizag port strike

Visakhapatnam, Nov. 21

The Visakhapatnam Port Users’ Association has urged the port management and the unions to come to an understanding and end the strike in the port that entered the third day on Saturday. In a press release here, Mr S.V. Chaudhury, President of the association, said many vessels were waiting at sea and some of the vessels were being diverted to Gangavaram and other ports due to the strike. “This strike is causing immense damage and both the parties should find a swift solution to it. The trade is suffering and users have to pay heavy demurrages,” he said. The workers of the port’s cargo handling division went on strike from Thursday against the implementation of manning scales.
