Tuticorin handles record timber

Madurai, Nov. 19

A record 6,002 million tonnes (mt) of timber logs were unloaded at Tuticorin Port in a single day on Wednesday, surpassing the previous record of 5,016 mt, unloaded on January 25 this year. This was achieved by using mechanical grabs and volvo shore handling equipment from the vessel M.V. Parinda Naree. The Stevedore and the Ship Agent of the vessel was St John Freight Systems Ltd, Tuticorin. Similarly a record 18,392 mt of muriate of potash was unloaded in a single day on Thursday from the vessel M.V. Orient surpassing the previous record of 15,890 mt handled on August 19, this year. The Ship Agent and the Stevedores were Baxi & Co, Tuticorin and PSTS & Sons, Tuticorin respectively, according to a release fromTuticorin Port Trust (TPT).
