IIM-B opens door to cos for internship

Bangalore, Nov. 12 More than 150 companies visited the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, to pick interns for the summer of 2010.

Among the consulting firms there were regulars like McKinsey & Co, Boston Consulting Group, Bain & Co, Booz & Co, AT Kearney, Arthur D Little, Deloitte and KPMG.

Global investment banks including Standard Chartered, Goldman Sachs and Citi made 19 per cent of the offers, while finance took up 16 per cent and consulting about 15 per cent of the talent.

PE firms such as Blackstone Group, Zephyr Peacock, Morgan Stanley Pvt Equity, Rothschild, IDG Ventures and Sabre Capital recruited students for specialised positions. Out of the batch of 348 students, 64 students are interning abroad this year.

Other sectors that offered a significant number of positions included sales and marketing (21 per cent), general management (12 per cent) and IT (9 per cent).

Strategic management roles were offered by Indian majors such as Wipro Consulting, Aditya Birla Group and Mahindra & Mahindra. First timers on the campus were media companies Starcom Mediavest, Bates Pan Gulf, Walt Disney and Wolff Olins, pharma majors GSK Pharma, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories and Avesthagen, and realty players JLLM and the Brigade Group.
