‘Govt committed to help magazine biz’

New Delhi, Nov. 5

T he Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Ms Ambika Soni, assured the magazine industry that the Government is committed to proactively help the magazine business in India. Delivering her keynote address at the Indian Magazine Congress 2009, Ms Soni said: “The Ministry is working towards amending the Press and Registration of Book Act. A Cabinet note is doing the rounds of the ministries regarding provisions of increasing the FDI (foreign direct investment) cap. The target is to amend the Act by March 31, 2010.” The Minister also said that the Government is evaluating the request of media houses to increase the FDI limit from the existing 26 per cent to 49 per cent in consultation with the TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India). — Our Bureau
