Focus on low-cost deposits, says Karnataka Bank chief

The Managing Director of Karnataka Bank, Mr P. Jayarama Bhat, has asked the regional heads of the bank to focus more on credit expansion and mobilisation of low-cost deposits.

A bank release said here that Mr Bhat said this while addressing the regional heads’ review conference in Mangalore on Monday.

Mopping up of funds under low-cost deposits will contribute greatly towards reduction of cost of funds. Regional heads should ensure that the branches concentrate more on low-cost deposits and expansion of credit for improving the bottom-line, Mr Bhat said.

He also asked them to tackle the NPAs on war footing. He appealed to the heads of eight regions to motivate the members in their regions to contribute more for improving the progress card in the next couple of quarters of the year.

The General Manager, Mr B. Ashok Hegde, apprised them of the progress made during the September quarter.

The General Managers, Mr K.H. Shivaswamy Aithal, Mr P. Jairama Hande, and Mr N. Upendra Prabhu, spoke.
