Excellent insights: The Micromax Systems Private Ltd Managing Director, Mr P.V. Kannan, addressing the ‘Business Line Campus Interface to the Corporate World’, sponsored by Karur Vysya Bank, at the Jamal Institute of Management in Tiruchi on Monday. Our Bureau Tiruchi, Nov. 2 Management students have a pivotal role to play in transforming India’s youth into agents of industrial and economic growth, banking and industry leaders told a gathering of students at the Jamal Institute of Management, Jamal Mohamed College, here on Monday. Management professionals have been behind Indian companies’ successful overseas acquisitions and making the nation a global force to reckon with, says Mr R. Sukumar, Chief General Manager, Karur Vysya Bank. Mr Sukumar was delivering a special lecture at the inaugural of the Business Line Campus Interface to the Corporate World presented by the KVB for the academic year 2009-10. Countries across the world are investing heavily on youth, recognising their contribution towards building the nation. With over 200 million youths in the age group of 15 to 24 years, India has pinned great hopes on this section of the population to take the country forward, said Mr Sukumar. KVB’s association with the programme, he said, reflected the bank’s commitment towards developing talent and scholarship among youth. KVB is known not just for its traditional roots but also for its progressive thoughts. Ingredients for successDelivering the BL Club Special Guest Lecture on ‘Success Rules’, Mr P.V. Kannan, Managing Director, Micromax Systems Private Ltd and Past Chairman – CII, Tiruchi, said vision (aspiration), mission (delivery vehicle) and strategy (making both possible) were the basic ingredients for success. One can go up the career ladder with responsibility and authority only by taking active part in analysing problems and finding solutions, putting in hard work, he said, narrating his transformation into an entrepreneur. Mr Kannan advised youngsters to take up jobs after a thorough analysis of their skills, and short and long-term goals. Failure can be a platform for developing positive attitude of sustaining efforts. However, complacency can result in failures even for successful professionals. By responding (rather than reacting) to situations with a balanced view, management professionals can take a correct decision, earning the trust of employees in the process. The other attributes necessary for a successful management professional include physical activeness, conviction to stand by core values, imbibing the right attitude to win by hard work, and cultivation of a tendency to give back to the society, said Mr Kannan. The Institute Director and College Principal, Mr M. Sheik Mohamed, said nothing was impossible for those with self-confidence, a sense of commitment to achieve, an eagerness to assimilate as much information and knowledge as possible, and an attitude to enhance personality through SWOT analysis. Mr R. Srinivasan, Regional General Manager, The Hindu, Tiruchi; Mr M. Subbaiyan, Chief Manager, KVB, Tiruchi; and Mr Bejoy John Thomas, Professor and Member-in-Charge, Jamal Institute of Management, offered felicitations.
