Prices slip at Kochi tea auction


Medium and plain grades also quoted lower and there were several withdrawals from the leaf auction as well.

The dust market of the Kochi Tea Auction remained dull and lackluster as there was virtually no export demand and very low domestic demand.

Prices fell by Rs 3-5 and there were several withdrawals from the CTC and orthodox dust auctions.

AVT, HUL and Tata Tea remained selective pursuing quality while Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation and upcountry buyers were less active.

There was 12,78,000 kg of tea on offer at the dust auction.

Leaf Auction

There was 3,62,000 kg of leaf tea on offer at the leaf auction. Most grades witnessed a fall in prices which was led by high grown varieties that fell by Rs 5-10 and even more as the auction progressed.

Even the prices of fannings which were in good demand from exporters and domestic tea bag manufacturers fell this week.

Medium and plain grades also quoted lower and there were several withdrawals from the leaf auction as well. Exporters to CIS countries were active while those to Tunisia and Iraq were subdued at the orthodox leaf auction.

Tata Tea and HUL remained selective at the CTC leaf auction while upcountry buyers were subdued.

Top Prices

In the dust segment Curzon BOPD fetched the top price at Rs 142 followed by Kilkotagiri BOPD at Rs 129, Pasuparai RD at Rs 122 and Pasuparai SFD at Rs 122.

In the leaf segment Glendale BOPD and Kil-Kotagiri OP fetched the top price at Rs 160 followed by Chamraj FP at Rs 158 and Chamraj FBOP at Rs 157.
