‘NREGS engagement below par’

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct. 29

The Minister for Local Administration, Mr Paloli Mohammed Kutty, has said that the engagement trend in the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) in the State left a lot to be desired. Addressing the first meeting of the reorganised State Employment Guarantee Council here, Mr Kutty said on Wednesday that the Act was designed to ensure 100 days of employment a year to the beneficiaries. But only 22 days of employment were generated under the programme at present , which was only 50 per cent of the national average.
