DishTV reduces losses by 63% in Q2

New Delhi, Oct. 27 Internal measures such as optimising costs has helped direct-to-home TV service provider, DishTV to decrease its losses by 63 per cent to Rs 56 crore for the quarter ended September 2009 compared with Rs 154 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.

Net sales for the quarter under review grew by about 49 per cent to Rs 257 crore (Rs 172 crore).

Commenting on the performance, Mr Subhash Chandra, Chairman, said, “Our focus on operational excellence and internal measures such as cost optimisation has supported the results.

“We also continued with our investment programmes to support our growth. The ongoing macroeconomic trends and a positive industry cycle are key factors for strengthening our optimistic outlook in the coming quarters.”

The company’s half yearly net losses for the half year ended September 2009 also went down by 55 per cent to Rs 125 crore (Rs 279 crore).

Half yearly net sales were up 50 per cent at Rs 504 crore (Rs 337 crore).

At the end of the quarter, the company’s market share stood at 38 per cent.

DishTV has also acquired 0.41 million new subscribers during the quarter ended September 2009, according to a company release.

The company’s shares fell by 6 per cent to close at Rs 38.75 on Tuesday.
