United Spirits Q2 net profit drops 26%

Our Bureau

Bangalore, Oct. 27 Higher interest as well as material costs have pulled down the net profit of United Spirits by 26 per cent to Rs 69.60 crore (Rs 93.89 crore) for the second quarter of 2009-10.

In a release to the Bombay Stock Exchange, the company said its total income has, however, grown 19 per cent to Rs 1087.55 crore (Rs 911.36 crore).

The cost of the working capital expansion to fund the sales growth as also the rise in the rupee/dollar parity have pushed up interest costs during the quarter to Rs 75 crore from Rs 43 crore in the corresponding period last year.

The advertisement and sales promotion costs have also gone up 70 per cent to Rs 83.46 crore during the quarter. During the quarter, there was a 10 per cent increase in volume sales to 22.9 million cases.
