NITC annual event begins

The annual techno-management festival of the National Institute of Technology, Calicut, (NITC) began on Friday with a series of workshops and exhibitions.

The first day of the three-day event, ‘Tathva – 09’, featured the demonstration of 3G technology by the Electronics and Communications Department of the institute.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Calicut Planetarium also held exhibitions showcasing the strengths of their respective fields.

There were also workshops on ‘Ethical Hacking’, ‘Astrophotography’ and ‘Web-designing’.

An auto expo, ‘Wheels’, displayed several glamorous cars such as BMW and Lexus SUV. An event, namely ‘GSM’, was also part of the event where the participants had to build electronic switches controlled by mobile phones.

Dr Prahlad Vadakkepat, Professor, National University of Singapore, delivered a lecture on ‘Advances in Robotics’.

Besides, Dr Bernd Fitzner, Director, Geologisches Institut der RWTH Aachen, spoke on the topic of ‘Conservation Strategies for Stone Monuments of World Heritage’.

Another highlight of the day was a video conference by Nobel laureate Prof Harold Kroto with the audience on ‘Science Education for the 21st Century’.
