Karnataka puts off global investors’ meet due to floods

Bangalore, Oct. 23 Taking into account the unprecedented damage caused to private and public properties by the recent floods in north Karnataka, the State Government on Friday decided to postpone the Global Investors’ Meet (GIM) scheduled to be held here on January 11-12, 2010.

A decision has been taken to hold the GIM either in the last week of May or in the first week of June 2010, in Bangalore.

The decision to put off the GIM was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, Mr B.S. Yeddyurappa here. He made an assessment of the preparations made by various departments for the GIM. A majority of officials favoured postponing the mega event.

Briefing mediapersons, the Minister for Large and Medium Industries, Mr Murugesh R. Nirani, said the entire administrative machinery was busy with rehabilitation work in the flood-hit districts of north Karnataka.
