Kannur to host textile fair

Kozhikode, Oct. 22 The State Industries Department, in association with Kerala Bureau of Industrial Promotion (K-BIP), will hold a textile fair in Kannur from January 14 next year.

Styled Tex Fair Kerala -2010, the event is being held in line with the State Government’s thrust on promoting the textiles and garments sector. And Kannur has been chosen as the venue as the district boasts of a rich tradition in the manufacture and export of handloom products, according to department officials.

The handloom export from Kannur has crossed Rs 250 crore a year and has been accorded the status of ‘Town of Export Excellence’ by the Union Government. Besides, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) has established a centre in Kannur.

It is pointed out that the State has more than three lakh spindles in public and cooperative spinning mills.
