Shipping/Ports Work begins to retrieve oil from sunken ship in Paradip Our Bureau Kolkata, Oct. 22 The work on the retrieval of oil stored in the sunken vessel, m.v. Black Rose, off Paradip port started on Thursday, according to Paradip Port Trust sources. It will take three to four weeks to complete the job, observe the sources. An estimated 975 tonnes of oil, comprising 925 tonnes of furnace oil and 50 tonnes of diesel, are stored in the vessel’s tanks. The core group of Resolve Marine Group Inc, Florida, US, which has been entrusted the job, arrived at Paradip a few days ago. The team consists of a salvage master, a salvage engineer, a safety engineer, underwater divers, among others. The specialised equipment to be needed for the job too have been flown. The team undertook the survey of the vessel, which is mostly under water, during past few days before starting work today and utmost care is being taken to avoid the slightest chance of a probable leakage of the stored oil, the sources add.
