Arogyasri to be streamlined further

Hyderabad, Oct. 21 Arogyasri, a health insurance coverage scheme supported by the Andhra Pradesh Government, has helped over four lakh families thus far with surgeries and efforts are underway to expand its reach and streamline its implementation.

The Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, who chaired the 12th Board of Trustees meeting of Aarogyasri Health Care Trust, mentioned that the scheme services targets the poor and low-income people.

Efforts are underway to strengthen its implementation and broaden its coverage to different sections of the society.

The Board decided to renew the Rajiv Aarogyasri Community Health Insurance scheme Phase -II for the third year. It has targetted to cover 52 lakh BPL (below poverty line) families.

The Government expects to select insurance companies for Arogyasri through an open bidding process.

The meeting decided to renew the services of Tata Consultancy Services for upgradation of hardware and software and maintenance of Trust website for the year 2009-10.

The mandate encompasses creation of a disaster recovery mechanism.

The Chief Minister will inaugurate a new Aarogyasri office building next month at Durgam Cheruvu named as Dr YSR Bhavan.

Since launch of the scheme on April 1, 2007, 23,28,543 patients have been screened in 13,459 health camps organised at the village level in 23 districts.

Of them, 1,77,703 patients were referred to network hospitals for further evaluation and surgery from these camps, the statement mentioned.
