Dakshina Kannada banks’ business crosses Rs 20,000 cr

Mangalore, Oct. 21 Banks in Dakshina Kannada have crossed business level of Rs 20,454 crore as of June 2009.

Speaking at the district consultative meeting for banking development of Dakshina Kannada district here on Wednesday, Mr Sujir Prabhakar, Deputy General Manager of Syndicate Bank, said that this business was achieved 399 branches of various banks in the district.

This includes deposits of Rs 13,082 crore and advances of Rs 7,372 crore. The credit-deposit ratio of the district stood at 56 per cent during the period.

The meeting was organised by Syndicate Bank, the lead bank of the district.

Mr Udayakumar Holla, Lead Bank Manager, Syndicate Bank, who presented the agenda, said that the level of priority sector advances in the district was Rs 4,534 crore, constituting 61 per cent of the total advances. The level of advance to agriculture sector was Rs 1,570 crore. NRI deposits in the district stood at Rs 2,100 crore.

A total of 3,638 self-help groups have been formed in the district under ‘Stree Shakthi’ programme and the banks have sanctioned loans to 210 groups during the year, he added.

Mr P. Shivashankar, Chief Executive Officer of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, presided over the meeting.

Mr P.D. Ravikumar, Lead District Officer of Reserve Bank of India, executives and district coordinators from banks, and representatives from government departments and non-governmental organisations participated in the meeting.
