Power States - Andhra Pradesh Srisailam unit to be restored soon Our Bureau Hyderabad, Oct. 19 The 900-MW Srisailam Left Bank Power House, which was shut down earlier this month following inundation by floods, will be operational later this week. Restoration works taken on by AP Genco will help bring this major hydel project back into the grid and, thereby, partly bridge the current demand-supply mismatch in the State power requirement. However, the 770 MW Left Bank Power House, which was fully inundated on October 3, is likely to take at least three months for restoration. The AP Genco Chairman and Managing Director, Mr K. Vijayanand, has communicated to the Government that the work on the 500 MW Bhupalapally power project (Kakatiya Thermal Power Plant) is at an advanced stage and scheduled for completion by March 2010. This would ease pressure during the next summer peak demand. More projectsThe Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, who reviewed the power sector performance, agreed to extend necessary support to AP Genco for setting up new power projects. AP Genco was foraying into nuclear power in partnership with Nuclear Power Corporation. Meanwhile, efforts have been stepped up to commence work on the Rs. 2,700 crore, 600 MW coal-based power project of Singareni Collieries Company Ltd, planned in Adilabad district. This project would access to pithead abandoned coal mines at Srirapur with potential to produce 2.5 million tonnes an annum. SCCL has already secured land and environmental clearance. Negotiations were underway with BHEL for plant equipment supplies. A power purchase agreement would be entered into between AP Genco and AP Transco and distribution companies.
