Press Act to be amended soon

New Delhi, Oct. 14

The Government will soon amend the Press and Registration of Books Act on a larger scale. This was stated by the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Ms Ambika Soni, on Tuesday, at the All India Editors’ Conference in Srinagar. She said that the existing provisions of the Act are inadequate to cater to the growth of the print media in view of the liberalisation of Government policies. Ms Soni said her ministry has convened a conference of State information minis ters, early next month in New Delhi, to discuss the various issues relating to media. She said it is important to profile people who overcome adversities against all odds with fortitude and courage.
