Merck acquires Sanmar’s Bangalore Genei

Mumbai, Oct. 13 Drug-maker Merck KGaA has acquired Bangalore Genei (India) Pvt Ltd from the Chennai-based Sanmar Group, a Merck note said, without disclosing the financial details.

Bangalore Genei specialises in developing products for proteomic and genomic research.

With more than 100 employees, Bangalore Genei generated total revenues of Rs 20 crore in fiscal 2008-09, the note said.

The acquisition was through Merck’s wholly-owned subsidiary in India, Merck Specialities Pvt Ltd.

By combining Bangalore Genei’s activities with Merck’s bioscience business, Merck will be among the leading bioscience companies in India, the note added.
