Apache Footwear on hiring spree

Hyderabad Oct. 12

Apache Footwear India Pvt Ltd, the shoe maker for global footwear brand Adidas, will be increasing its Indian manpower base from the present 5,000 employees to 8,500 at its manufacturing facility at Mambattu in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh by 2010. The proposed increase in head count is part of the company's medium term plan to ramp-up its Indian operations, backed by Adidas management. The company has lined up an expansion programme that includes setting up of a development centre, an uppers stitching factory, a mould shop and a new footwear factory dedicated to the domestic tariff area. Mr Andy Koehler, the Global Sourcing Head of Adidas, visited the Nellore factory last week, promising to provide full support to the Indian operations. - Our Bureau
