Our Bureau

Chennai, Oct. 12 Leading global electricity transmission and distribution majors are in talks with JSW Energy to work with the company in India, the JSW Energy’s Chief Financial Officer, Mr Pramod Menon, told presspersons here on Monday.

He said that JSW Energy, which has made a beginning in building transmission infrastructure in Maharashtra, has qualified to bid for transmission infrastructure for the upcoming ultra mega power projects.

Mr Menon did not elaborate on the scope of the talks, but said that if JSW Energy wins the bids on various stretches, each project could be a special purpose vehicle with a foreign partner.

Capacity

JSW Energy has 995 MW of generating capacity, which it plans to take up to 3,140 MW by April 2011.

JSW Energy recently formed a joint venture with Toshiba of Japan to produce turbines for power projects. The project is to come up at Ennore, near Chennai. Mr Menon said that the joint venture aspires to bag some orders from the upcoming NTPC’s tender for 11 supercritical units of 660 MW each.

Boiler joint venture

JSW is also in talks with some foreign companies for a similar joint venture for boilers too. Mr Menon said that the talks are in the preliminary stages.

JSW Energy proposes to come out with its initial public offering to raise Rs 3,000 crore for financing its plans in ‘energy’, Mr Menon said.
