Facility for e-payment of VAT launched

Our Bureau

Chennai, Oct. 12 The Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department is introducing e-payment facility for VAT payments online, according to an official press release.

The facility is mandated for dealers whose taxable turnover is more than Rs 200 crores. But other dealers can also avail of this facility. As an initial step, e-payment can be made through State Bank of India. The department is taking action to enable payment through other banks including Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank and Bank of Baroda, the release said.

The e-payment facility follows the introduction of the online filing of monthly returns introduced in November 2007. Over a lakh and a half dealers use this facility. Now payments can be made conveniently from anywhere and at anytime through this simple and transparent facility which ensures online transactions through a safe and secure mode, the release said.

For further assistance, the Territorial Joint Commissioners may be approached or details can be obtained from toll free number 1800-4250-960 or from the department website: www.tn.vat.gov.in. Assistance can also be obtained from SBI online at www.onlinesbi.com (or) toll free number 1800 112211.
