Outlook States - Tamil Nadu TN urged to check farm input prices Our Bureau Coimbatore, Oct. 12 The Tamizhaga Vivasayigal Sangham has urged the Tamil Nadu Government to take immediate steps to accelerate agriculture production and arrest spiralling cost of agricultural commodities. ‘Agriculture is becoming increasingly unviable because of higher input costs and lack of minimum support price. The production has come down significantly in the last five years. The Government intervention is necessary to make agriculture a viable proposition. If measures are not initiated immediately, the country would end up importing food stuff at higher prices, forcing the poor sections of the society to the streets,’ Dr M.R. Sivasamy, State President of the Tamizhaga Vivasayigal Sangham, said. Spiralling of pricesThe production shortfall of various commodities has resulted in spiralling of prices of essential food stuff such as cereals, dhal, vegetables, sugar and oil among others.
