Our Bureau Bangalore, Oct. 9 Prompted by an encouraging performance, Infosys Technologies Ltd has raised its hiring plan for fiscal 2010. The company now intends to hire 20,000 people, compared with its earlier plan of 18,000. The 2,000 extra people would include staff for Infosys BPO as well as lateral hires for the IT services business. Infosys, which has already crossed the half-way mark of its hiring target for the year, plans to add about 9,500 people in the remaining two quarters. In the latest quarter, Infosys added 6,069 employees on a gross basis, while net addition stood at 1,548. The total employee strength was 1,05,453 employees as on September 30. Mr Ashok Vemuri, Head of Banking and Financial Services Practice at Infosys, said there has been actual volume growth in North America, the company’s largest market. The growth has come from sectors such as banking and financial services, retail and energy and utilities. North America contributed to 65.9 per cent of its total revenue in the September quarter, compared with 64.7 per cent in the previous quarter and 61.5 per cent in the year-ago period. However, the European market has still not seen growth. But clients are engaging in dialogues and a pipeline is beginning to develop, said Mr B.G. Srinivas, head of Europe at Infosys. As part of total revenue, the banking and financial services vertical grew marginally to 33.5 per cent in the second quarter from 33 per cent in the previous quarter and 33.4 per cent in the year-ago period. Retail contributed 14.1 per cent to total revenue during the period, compared with 13.2 per cent in the previous quarter and 13.2 per cent in the year-ago period. Telecom contributed 16.2 per cent during the quarter, down from 16.9 per cent in the previous quarter and 19 per cent in the year-ago period. In terms of service offerings, revenue from system integration increased to 4.4 per cent of total revenue, compared with 3.8 per cent in the previous quarter and 3.5 per cent in the year-ago period. Revenue from infrastructure management increased to 7.8 per cent of total revenue from 6.6 per cent in the previous quarter and 5.9 per cent in the year-ago period.
