‘Water should be treated as a resource’

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, Oct. 8 Speakers at a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) meet on ‘Water infrastructure’ have suggested that water should be treated as a resource and taxed.

Giving a global perspective of water at the seminar held here on Thursday, Dr Raja Venkataramani, Director of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India Private Ltd, said it was important to recognise water as a resource. “This will help quantify and value water,” he said.

Stating that several global firms were keen to tap the water infrastructure opportunity in India, he said issues such as regulation, water resources management, economic value assessment, pricing and tariff needed to be addressed.
