Max Healthcare looking at acquisitions in Delhi region

Sets up cancer centre with new technology.

Thomas K. Thomas

New Delhi, Oct. 4 Mr Analjit Singh-promoted hospital chain Max Healthcare is open to acquisitions in the Delhi region to strengthen its presence there.

The healthcare company has also set up a modern cancer centre with Novalis Tx technology for non-invasive radiosurgery treatment.

Speaking to Business Line, Dr Parvez Ahmed, CEO and MD, Max Healthcare, said, “We are open to any opportunity for an acquisition in the Delhi region. Though there are no proposals on the plate currently, our target could be the single unit hospitals in the city. It is not easy to run a single chain hospital.”

Max is also setting up three new hospitals outside the NCR region. “We have identified Mohali, Dehradun and Bhatinda,” Dr Ahmed said.

On the newly set up cancer centre, Dr Ahmed said that it would have a one-day diagnosis system whereby patients can undergo all checks and tests and get the report on the same day. To start with the centre will offer the one-day diagnosis scheme to patients suspected of breast cancer.

“Our objective has always been to bring new technologies in the healthcare sector in India. The launch of Max Cancer Care is a step towards that. It would offer the latest and most technologically advanced treatment in surgical, radiation and medical disciplines of Oncology. With the installation of Novalis Tx (and the existing BrainSUITE), Max Healthcare has become the first hospital in the country where patients can avail themselves of the benefit of a complete Neurosurgical and Radiation Oncology solution at one place. In fact it is the just the second installation in Asia-Pacific to have both complementing technologies under one roof,” Dr Ahmed said.

Newest techniques

Novalis Tx radiation is one of the newest techniques to cure cancer by targeting the tumour more precisely, while actually minimising the damage to surrounding tissues. Max is the only hospital in North India to deploy this technology for cancer treatment.

Further leveraging new technologies, Max is also planning to offer online health services once third generation mobile services are launched by telecom companies. “We have set up our systems and hubs in place and are ready to utilise third generation technology based services to offer healthcare on mobile phones,” Dr Ahmed said.

The Indian healthcare industry is one of the world’s largest industries. Healthcare is a $ 35-billion industry in India, and is expected to reach $75 billion by 2012 and $150 billion by 2017, according to research reports.
