New Delhi, Oct. 2 Mr B. Prasada Rao has taken over as the new Chairman and Managing Director of the state-run equipment major Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL). Mr Rao, 55, assumed charge as the new CMD on Thursday, BHEL said in a statement. He takes charge at a crucial juncture when BHEL is building both its capacity and capability to contribute fully towards meeting the country’s power generation target for the Eleventh Five-Year (2007-12) Plan and beyond, the statement said. Mr R ao, who joined BHEL in 1978, has worked in various roles in the public sector navratna engineering enterprise. Mr Rao is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada and a Post Graduate in Industrial Engineering from NITIE, Mumbai. He has 31 years of diversified experience through working in strategic as well as operational areas in all major segments of BHEL covering concept-to-commissioning activities, the statement said. BHEL also announced the appointment of Mr Atul Saraya as the company’s Director (Power). Prior to this, he was heading the company’s power sector (marketing) function as well as BHEL’s power sector eastern region construction division as Executive Director, the company said.
